19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a torrid year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children together, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early break points in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
